I wonder if Warren will ever be forgiven and welcomed back into comic books, where he was the very best writer in the post-Moore landscape. He has served his penance. In his weekly newsletter one feels the heartache, weariness, sadness, regret, possibly remorse, weighing down his prose.

The inspiration might just as well have come from Yaroslav Horak, who drew the comic strip adaptation of the Kingsley Amis/Robert Markham novel Colonel Sun, the first post-Fleming Bond novel.

In the brilliantly clever time-travel story that #WarrenEllis wrote for Secret Avengers 20, it was assumed that the pitch-perfect comic strip dailies drawn by maestro #AlexMaleev were a pastiche of Jim Holdaway's artwork on Modesty Blaise.
