First take out of arguments: Despite efforts by Sotomayor to put off a decision, it appeared the Supreme Court will subject Colorado’s conversion therapy ban to strict scrutiny under the First Amendment, with a majority likely to strike it down outright.

Missourians are mobilizing to give voters a chance to block the state’s new Trump-ordered gerrymander that could hand the GOP one congressional seat at the cost of Black voters. But Republican leaders are doing everything in their power to silence them.

Judge Maria Lazar is running for Wisconsin Supreme Court. She's a conservative who worked at a corporate law firm for decades. Her rulings reflect that background:
Siding With Corporate Polluters
In 2024, Lazar joined a 2-1 majority ruling in favor of conservative business group Wisconsin
Manufacturers and Commerce Inc., holding that the DNR’s PFAS regulation was unlawful under
Wisconsin’s “spills law.” [2024 WI App 18] This ruling severely limited the state of Wisconsin’s
ability to protect residents from so-called “forever chemicals” that can contaminate drinking
water.
In 2025, however, Lazar was overturned in a 5-2 Wisconsin Supreme Court ruling holding that
DNR does have authority to address PFAS contamination regardless of whether the agency has
formally promulgated rules designating PFAS as hazardous substances. [2025 WI 26]

Unless we win this fight via the current shutdown,
888,000 people in NC ALONE will see their health care premiums double.
That number does not include people who will lose Medicaid.

20 million Americans would see their health care premiums DOUBLE under the Republican spending proposal. Here's how many are in your state.

There’s no rule of journalistic neutrality that requires you to say something is “unclear” when that is objectively untrue. It would be illegal. There’s absolutely zero ambiguity about that fact. Saying it’s unclear is making a false statement in your reporting.

It is not clear that Mr. Trump’s image can be featured on a coin. An 1866 law enshrined a tradition that only deceased people could appear on U.S. currency to avoid the appearance that America was a monarchy. Trump admin is planning to do it anyway.

I really appreciate Justice Jackson contrasting the lower courts' meticulous and responsible approach to judging—extensive deliberations, written opinions—with the Supreme Court's slapdash, unreasoned work over the shadow docket. www.documentcloud.org/documents/26...
They have done so in reasoned and thoughtful written opinions—opinions that, in the nor- ‘mal course, we would get to parse, assess, and embrace or reject, while fully explaining our reasoning.

One of the last great figures in civil rights law, James Ferguson, passed away yesterday. He was the key partner to Julius Chambers, who led the landmark “Swann” Supreme Court case that desegregated Charlotte schools and launched busing nationwide.

A group of Watauga County voters is suing over voting maps enacted by the General Assembly for local races, arguing they represent an illegal gerrymander.

The county commission currently has five Republican members — it previously had a 3-2 Democratic majority.
