Can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic or not here but saddling students with such debt, many never earning enough to pay their loan off in full, seems ridiculous. Fees fully paid and grants for living expenses, funded by a graduate/technical qualification tax, would be more effective and fairer.

A system that can only survive, and recruit a reasonable number of domestic students, through subsidy from very high fee paying international students is one that is broken. The need to invest in FE is urgent, the need to find a sustainable HE funding model equally so.

Yes but the skills system is different. Investment in FE colleges would reap economic benefits and reduce the need for imported labour.
