New publication! We mapped the global genetic diversity of marine forests of brown macroalgae. Using genetic data, machine learning & past climate projections (LGM, ~20k yrs ago), we identify hotspots of diversity that shape resilience & conservation priorities. 🌍 🌊

Ep. 7: Trophic Convergence in Marine Vertebrates

podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/e...

Dive into the fascinating concept of trophic convergence in marine vertebrate communities worldwide. Marine communities in similar environments exhibit similar trophic structure.
biodiversityds.bsky.social
Our latest study out in PNAS reveals trophic convergence in marine vertebrate communities worldwide. Across oceans, similar environments host functionally analogous trophic structures - regardless of species identity.

🚨 New publication!

We've documented the extinction of a keystone coral on Trindade Island, a remote Atlantic hotspot. Models predict even greater habitat loss by 2100. Urgent conservation and restoration efforts are needed.

Our new models predict global seagrass biomass - averaging ~133.83 gDW/m² - and project its future under climate change. Losses could hit up to 10%, with key hotspots most at risk. Meeting Paris targets is crucial.

Hi, thanks for your message. I’m sorry but I do not understand which part of our methods and rational was not clear in the paper. Can you please explain better you concerns? Can you point in the paper what was not clear? Thanks!!

2023-2024 were the hottest years in 2000+ yrs. Oceans absorbed 90% of excess heat & 30% of CO₂, buffering rapid biosphere shifts. Yet, #ecosystems like #marineForests remain overlooked. As #COP30 nears, we must rethink #climateChange & push for real action. Read our paper: doi.org/10.1002/aqc....
