Evolutionary "hills" or "islands"? Very interesting new approach to measure the uniqueness of a biological community, with great potential use as baseline to identify high-value biodiversity sites at multiple scales.

We usually post about #Macroecology #Biogeography in English.

We have developed a new methodological framework to measure biodiversity.
We focus on the uniqueness (or singularity) of biological communities and apply it to the GBF 30x30 target.

If you only have 4:35 min, check the visual abstract to know a little bit more about it ☺️:

University Departments and Faculties of the three Universities in the region have formally endorsed the “Open Letter (Manifesto) Against Altri”, after holding official internal votes.

This extraordinary alignment represents a historic act of collective academic dissent.

The scientific community working in environmental and natural sciences has taken an unprecedented, united stand against a new macro-scale pulp mill in NW Spain. We voted against

However, the regional government gave its green light last week.

Fresh off the press! 📚

Our book about Arion is finally here!
With the revision of the genus in the Iberian Peninsula, the description of two new species and numerous plates with drawings and photographs.
Not for a quick read (almost 400 pages) but definitely interesting! :-)

Our students are great! Look what they made!

The Biology building looks cool and it also shows that we are against the project of a huge paper mill in Galicia. It will be a disaster for biodiversity.

Do abyssal species that grow on polymetallic nodules have more restricted dispersal than fauna not depending on this resource? Contrasting distance-decay patterns in community similarity across the NE Pacific basin suggest they do! See our new study doi.org/10.1111/geb.... on time for #17DSBS!
