Haha Yes, I left it there as an "Easter egg" for anyone who can find it. I think this could be one of those. But who knows!

Solar storms and acute myocardial infarctions

According to this study, when solar activity is high, hospitalizations and deaths from heart attacks increase, especially among women (n 1340, Brazil).

2/3 They demonstrated this using two categories: "pull" and "throw". First, they trained them by throwing objects and saying “throw” and playing with pulling other objects while saying "pull". It is important to note that the toys did not resemble each other in any way.

This figure explains it well

1/2 Dogs are capable of forming mental categories of objects, despite not having language or being trained in symbols.

The dogs (mostly border collies) categorized new toys based on their experience with them.

Long John, the one-eyed Goffin is a large and rather dominant male in one of the Singapore groups. He has no trouble navigating through the canopy or strategically displacing pigeons from his feeding places. We think he is beautiful! - pics from Singapore with @theroesa.bsky.social

I get that the news cycle is packed right now, but I just heard from a colleague at the Smithsonian that this is fully a GIANT SQUID BEING EATEN BY A SPERM WHALE and it’s possibly the first ever confirmed video according to a friend at NOAA

The force required to separate and disperse dandelion seeds can vary by an order of magnitude, depending on the angle at which the wind is blowing. This prevents the seeds from falling near the parent plant. Perhaps that's why you can't blow them all away at once

2/2 They used the Oculus Rift CV1, and it worked despite the limitations of the avatars. In fact, the response was comparable to that of the flu vaccine.

I wonder how the body will respond to virtual experiences such as Madison VR on more modern devices.

1/2 Our immune system responds just by being around someone who appears to be sick.

Not only that, but our peripersonal space also expands.

This has been demonstrated using virtual reality, EEG, and analysis of innate lymphoid cells.

1/2 Chimpanzees consume the equivalent of 2.5 glasses of wine per day

It is interesting (although still speculative) how it seems to relate to specific behaviors, such as territorial patrols, group hunting, and general cohesion among males.

Spiritual chants from around the world share a common style.
It seems that these chants are the result of a cultural evolutionary convergence mediated by our psychology, as they are relaxing.

Crows can learn to use tools

The flexibility of corvid cognition is once again demonstrated to be sufficient for tool use, even in the absence of previous related adaptations.
