Birder from Chichester, UK.
Love to travel and take middling photos.
It was cloudy but very mild, and the sky put on a little show at the end of the afternoon. A nice couple of hours doing Low Tide Counts for @webs-gsmp.bsky.social in #ChichesterHarbour.

A redhead Goosander in heavy rain. Glad there are several hides at Langford Lakes reserve to shelter in - good job Wiltshire Wildlife Trust!
Kingfisher, Great Egret and good numbers of Redwing amongst the other highlights. The cafe here is truly exceptional as well!

You’ll want the satisfaction of a good swing so we should rename this as ‘a grok’.

A ‘refreshing’ wind made me glad I bought winter clothing when living in Wisconsin so I stayed nice and toasty. Two flocks of Golden Plover were new birds for my sector. Lots of nervous Dunlin with a Sparrowhawk cruising around. Any New Year cobwebs well and truly blown away now.

Canoe coming off the roof of the van in front and hitting the windscreen. Luckily it moved slightly sideways in the air and so the point didn’t hit the windscreen straight on.

I’m in my 50’s, this can fuck off!

Without even trying I had my best ever NY’s day with 77 species from Selsey Bill, Pagham Harbour & WWT Arundel. Highlights included 30+ RT Divers, 3 Peregrines, Firecrest, Goosander, Marsh Tit & finishing it off in style - the male Hen Harrier into roost at WWT. And all under glorious skies. 🤞2026

Seven years ago I did an #ebird checklist on holiday at San Diego Zoo (Black Phoebe pic). That was No.1. Today I did Low Tide Counts in 7 sectors of Chichester Harbour to celebrate seven years of a checklist a day.
(It was a lot colder this morning than 27th Dec 2018!)
Go Citizen Science! 💪

#BirdOfTheDay theme today is #MostRecent so here are some Brent Geese from this morning. This little group flew in and were drinking for quite a while.

Up early to do a Low Tide Count in Chichester Harbour whilst it’s quiet. Rewarded with my first Avocet for the sector. Then a couple of treats with the c70 strong White-front flock at the North Wall and Black-necked Grebe on Pagham Lagoon - one of the glaring gaps on my county list filled in!

Like a Ringlet. Easy to miss but I always wonder why that exact arrangement of circles has evolved to be like it is.

A chilly morning at RSPB Pulborough Brooks where I led a walk for Chichester Natural History Society. Lots of birdlife with the flocks of Lapwings and the breeding plumage Ducks looking particularly stunning in the morning sun. A little flock of Redwing & Fieldfare a nice way to finish a fun stroll.

Considering I hadn’t heard of you until Beautiful Days you’ve rocked the end of 2025 for me! 🎸

#BirdOfTheDay A Wilson’s Snipe for #Stripes. Taken through a car window this was the closest encounter I’ve ever had with this species..

It’s definitely sorting out photos weather today. Luckily that’s what I planned to do after being in Laos & Singapore for the last 2 weeks. Here are some birds with stonking great bills to start things off. These are all from Singapore.

Yesterday I led a SOS/Chichester RSPB group walk to The Burgh. The highlight was a gorgeous male Hen Harrier. Conditions were getting worse but this provides a template for a future photo I want to get - a grey ghost in front of Arundel castle & cathedral. One day 🤞

Sometime in the late 80’s a pair of Mute Swans nested in the garden (next to the greenhouse). We couldn’t hang washing out because the cob would rip it off the line, but generally they were pretty chill and it was a real treat to witness. #BirdOfTheDay #Swans

Very high tide = lots of waders on my @webs-gsmp.bsky.social count in Chichester Harbour. A glorious day but I think t-shirt weather in November is not a sign of a healthy planet! Several passers by looked through my scope (for the first time) and were blown away by the density of birds.

One of today’s #BirdOfTheDay themes is #fluffy.
I’ve always liked this Northern Yellow Warbler (newly split) photo I took in Wisconsin a few years ago.

An excellent evening in Havant being throughly entertained by @rialina.com
She’s on tour for a while yet so @deborahmalcolmart.bsky.social would definitely recommend catching her if you can!

Tonight was the first night of the Sound & Light show to celebrate 950 years of Chichester cathedral. I thought it was fantastic, really cool and well done. A must see if you’re in the area. #chichester

I’m glad you added the clarification as I was getting very confused whilst idly scrolling.
