After the rain let up, there were lots of smaller birds flitting about, mostly camera shy. This white-crowned sparrow posed for me though.

I’ve never heard mojado as a pejorative in the Midwest (not from a Latinx person, to be clear).

It’s more of an explanation of why someone is reserved. “She’s wet. I know she seems shy, but once she trusts you she’ll talk your ear off.”
