Halloween is mostly about fun but I want to take a moment to share this sobering cautionary tale.
A handmade tombstone decoration that says, "Pickle Boy, the boy who ate too many pickles and turned into a pickle and died."

For you signature collectors, I’ll have Artist Alley cheat sheets at my table at NYCC! There are 140 real people on the cover of the deluxe Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen. At least 12 of them are in artist alley! Some folks are already trying to get *everyone* in the crowd to sign the endpapers.
Two copies of Superman’s pal Jimmy Olsen, along with the cheat sheet The endpapers, an array of bow ties. Eleven of the bow ties are already signed.

I’m looking at it and I DIG IT.

A thing that should exist: a new series of Jim Henson’s The Storyteller, helmed by and hosted by Mackenzie Crook and focusing on spooky tales, eerie ghost stories, folk horror, and the like. And his puppet sidekick should be a smart-ass raven, which is on the nose (beak?), but too perfect not to do.

Y'all, I am VERY excited to introduce you to one of my new favorite Tolkien artists: Kay Woollard (1924-2008).

Woollard first read LotR in '79 when she was 55. From then until her death, she was heavily involved in Tolkien fan culture, contributing illustrations to Tolkien Society publications.

A🧵
A recursive cover of Amon Hen, Bulletin of the Tolkien Society, with a hobbit reading a copy of Amon Hen with a hobbit reading a copy of Amon Hen, and so on A bulletin titled "A Long-Expected Party Progress Report: Preparation" depicting many hobbit chefs baking pies Christmas card of a Hobbit couple carrying their child on their shoulders through a snowy landscape A postcard titled "A Slumbering Pedlar" showing a sleeping Hobbit pedlar resting on his pack of goods

This is heavy, beautiful, and completely inspirational.

Also, what a fucking square. “I am disturbed.” Gimme a break. Fella should’ve been shoved into a locker.

Gonna find a skateboarding game that has a good character creator just so I can play as the skaters from One Battle After Another.

This week at an event for THE PEOPLE’S PROJECT, a reader asked in a gracious and cheeky way what I would hope white readers in particular would get out of the book. Or more directly, what I would TELL white readers. And this was basically my answer:

African-Americans are experts on America.

Unspectacular? Dude’s art was so unique and interesting you could probably pick it out from 100 yards. If he’d never done anything beyond Spider-Man and Dr. Strange he’d still be considered one of the greatest to ever do it.

No doubt, man. The fact that someone even had to ask that question is absolute madness.

I wrote about why the regrettable conclusions of Ezra Klein pissed me off so badly in the last couple weeks.

On moral cowardice in an era that calls for clarity, and a popular political instinct to try to solve divisions of abuse by ignoring causes. www.the-reframe.com/eventually-y...

Superhero comics were more fun when they were goofy as hell and had a ton of cameo portraits on their covers to let you know who might show up.

The story of 2024 is this: Trump had a plan to destroy American government called Project 2025, which had, literally, not a typo, a 4% approval rating. He lied constantly and said he wouldn't do it.

Then he entered office and immediately implemented AN EVEN MORE EXTREME VERSION OF IT.
