Is the goal of tarrifs to increase tax revenue or to increase jobs. It can't be both. As one goes up, the other goes down.

I was just reading about apple phones. Most are made in China, but an increasing number are made in India. With the current tarrifs, all Indian phones should be shipped to the US, and some of the Chinese phones should be shipped to India. In an efficient market, this doesn't make any sense.

Every country can change their policies whenever they want. The US increased tarrifs last week. In response, many other countries changed their tarrifs. Every day, things will change. In the end, most countries will be worse off than they were 2 weeks ago.

More local storage will reduce the amount of transmission lines that we need and reduce the cost of electricity.

Soon, we will need dynamic pricing for energy. With batteries to store excess electricity dropping in price, we should be storing electricity when it is cheap and abundant. We should be releasing it when it is expensive.

When rooftop solar energy is discussed, the industry complains that there is lots of energy generated during the day that is just thrown away. When things are too expensive, the usual solution is to lower the price. If electricity was cheaper during the day than at night, I would charge my car then.

If local generation primarily from solar panels is significant. the transmission lines needed could drop by another order of magnitude. In most residential areas in the sun belt, solar panels should be able to generate enough electricity for their communities.

When all electricity is coming from far away, the transmission lines need to be big enough to handle the largest peak demand. When there is lots of storage capacity (batteries) near to where the electricity is used, then the transmission lines only need to be equal to the average demand.
