A stowaway on board the Harpy's Talon might prove to be the answer to The Blades' plight. If they can get a straight answer out of them.

Page 18 of Blade Maidens issue 5, Dead In The Water. The page begins looking down into a cracked open barrel which houses a hiding mer person. Ser grabs them and hauls them out, declaring them a spy and asking for an explanation. The mer person, named Perch, declares they are a princess on the run, but due to mel's ability to smell a lie, mel makes them "try again". That in addition to a panel focus of all of the gold, goods, and treasure also spilled out of the barrel, Perch gives up the charade and admits to the lie, gives their name. and prepares to get further into it, amused, with the crew.

Rowan's magic spirals out of her grasp and threatens not only herself, but everyone and everything around her.

Rowan begins to conjure her magic, once confidence turns into apprehension when she feels something off. Feels her magic take a turn of morganna's meddling yet again. It spirals out of control, tearing the sails of the ship to shreds, a lavender mist with the slightest hint of morganna's sharp toothy maw and crown first show in issue 3 overlaid. Ser catches rowan who cuts off her magic, stumbling back from the raw uncontrollable power. Rowan falls into them, buries her face. Frustrated and sad with herself, she communicates how the magic, her magic, fighting her, felt. Ser tries their best to reasure her, holding her tight and calming her down. The final panel features the captain looking up at the shredded sails, pissed, with a sarcastic comment to the group. "worth every coin, aye?" she says.

The captain prompts Ser to look through her viewfinder scope to see a storm, perfectly cut out in a line around their ship - suggesting merfolk magic is keeping them still in the water. Without wind, without relief. Without movement. The captain suggests perhaps Rowan could use her magic to create wind and fix the situation, but Rowan is reluctant given her lack of trust in her magic of late. Mel does her best to support her verbally, and Rowan decided to try using her magic. We are left on the last panel stinger of Rowan's magic just starting to come through, with a, "I'll see what I can do."

Rowan and Mel search and question the captain, and come up empty on a reason as to why the fish folk crew would attack. The three discuss ocean kingdoms, general political climate of the fish folk territories, and ultimately come up empty still. Mel has a small, subtle, side mission for herself in taking a piece of paper from the Captain's desk, and hides it behind her back. The page is left on a stinger of the captain saying they've got more pressing concerns, to be revealed on the page turn.
