I confess, I use them often for cleaning edge connectors of all sorts, with rubbing alcohol -- I guess I was more meaning on one's person.

You hit the same Tahoe bug I did. I found a solution (posted on Masto earlier):
SOLUTION: If you turn desktop widgets OFF, this broken behavior occurs. If you turn them ON but remove (or move) the widgets on your own, the problem disappears. See link:
