You from SC?

I pretty much don't care about the sauce but my pork cooks 11 hrs and my brisket around 20.

Bhattacharya graduated medical school but is not a physician.

Being a physician means you passed USMLE and are currently licensed.

Bhattacharya did neither.

Makary is a physician and surgeon and could be delicensed for making false/misleading claims.

In the SAINT protocol, TMS is applied to pfc that projects to the subcallosal cingulate using an intermittent protocol to cause increased suppression of SCC which relieves suppression at NAcc.

Helen Mayberg stimulates the subcallosal cingulate too relieve depression because it protects to and inhibits the nucleus accusers.

These occur in programming sessions.

Different contacts on a DBS lead are temporarily stimulated to explore clinical benefit and adverse effect profile.

All adverse effects from stimulation cease once stimulation apps.

These findings dovetail well with Mayberg's work and the SAINT protocol.

The fiscal year is over.

So how was the NIH appropriation committed?

A long thread with institute by institute results about where the money went.

Tactile roughness.

Sounds interesting.

It seems the cost and risk would be very low, and the potential improvements in health outcomes could be pretty high.

Musing at lunch yesterday.

Would there be advances in healthcare if, when an endovascular surgeon does a coronary angiogram, they do a head angiogram and vice versa?

I mean, if there is stenosis in the coronary RCA, isn't there also possible stenosis in (head) MCA or basilar or PICA or PCA?

37% fewer R awards this year with the same budget.

And no ADRD funding whatsoever.

NIH killed Alzheimer Research this year. Against a Congressional Mandate.

I'm sure it will be a non-answer from the NIH Director to Congress in coming months.

Once again, a shutdown appears likely after today 9/30.

Please get anything you need from ERA Commons and any communications you may need from SROs and POS.

Down the rabbit hole we go….
blakestah.bsky.social
For the scientists out there, please download anything you may need from ERA Commons before Oct 1. If there is a shutdown, it will go dark. SROs and POs will likely not respond to your emails, also, and study sections will not meet.

Betting markets at 80% for a Wednesday shutdown and rising quickly.
blakestah.bsky.social
It appears the markets were driven by the pre-meeting statements by Thune and Trump that nothing other than a clear CR would be acceptable (Trump used a pejorative insult on top of that).

We’ll see what happen today, but I expect it is down the rabbit hole we go…
blakestah.bsky.social
I have not seen anything new reported but being markets are at 67% for a Wednesday govt shutdown.

Scientists remember to grab things you may need from ERA Commons before end of day tomorrow.

This jury service was not optional. 23 people had to be there or else the sheriff would be sent to find them. Each juror had this legal obligation.

That did not change the quorum.
blakestah.bsky.social
We had the same quorum rules and rules of indicting, but it was not federal.
blakestah.bsky.social
When I served, 23 people were legally obligated to be present each session, and we never had less than 21 present. We had a good prosecutor, nearly all votes were unanimous.
blakestah.bsky.social
The standard for a grand jury is "probable cause" to hold a trial, and not "beyond a reasonable doubt". If a grand jury outcome is not unanimous or nearly so, it is a really bad sign for the prosecution.
annabower.bsky.social
I reviewed the court transcript.

It’s true that only 14 grand jurors voted in favor of the Comey indictment, but the total number of grand jurors who voted is not specified.

The minimum number required for a quorum is 16; the maximum is 23.

New on MSNBC: According to the court transcript, only 14 of the 23 grand jurors voted in favor of indicting James Comey on the two counts that went forward.
