Pynchon is apparently friendly with his niece, Tristan Taormino, so the amount of weird online shit he could be aware of or even into is… unsettlingly large.

An Irishman, trolling? Well I never! This is unprecedented!

I’m still recovering from learning that helicopter pig hunting with full auto machine guns is a thing.

Just absolute nightmare animals, and they breed like rabbits too. The fact that they’re tasty is their saving grace.

It's really impressive how well they've occupied the niche of "not the absolute best, but nearly always Good Enough and usually several zeros cheaper than the absolute best" and for decades now!

😱

I am about as purebred a city mouse as exists on this planet and even I know that "falling over in front of a pig" is a situation to be avoided at all fucking costs. Glad he didn't lose any appendages or major organs.

This is going around again and it is not true. Like every site on the internet, Bluesky uses machine learning to do a first-pass approximation of image classification to detect and label content. They have repeatedly confirmed outside services do not use Bluesky user data to train their models.

Ah, okay, I definitely read that the other way! So yeah: if I just want to very quickly turn a bunch of stuff into evenly shaped slices, I generally grab the handheld oxo cutter and then a minute later am happily moved on to the next task.

Just buy whatever Ox— *is dragged offstage by a hook*

Okay real talk: I have a schmancy Bron Couke steel mandoline and the Oxo handheld one, and while the former is undoubtedly a better tool it's also heavy and takes time to set up so unless I'm making fries I just grab the oxo. BUY KEVLAR GLOVES.

I'm inclined to think that it's a good thing for humanity on net that google is willing to set this much money on fire in service of making Waymo work, but I do worry that we're at least another 15 years away from the BOM getting to the point where it actually makes sense as a product.

A couple dashes of fish sauce in any tomato-based sauce is a secret weapon. Stir it around a few times to make sure that the smell vanishes and then it's just an invisible flavor boost. I'd say 'similar to MSG' but you should add that too.

If I remember the history right (and I may not!), Firepower was their first implementation of a datacenter-wide, 1gbps-guaranteed-to-every-endpoint CLOS switch fabric. IIRC they asked both Cisco and F5 how much it would cost to build that, they both said "you want WHAT by WHEN??" and, well...

"The double-tap interview."

This. Google's network infra teams took a hard look at the commercial state of the art circa 2008-09, said "LOL fuck that" and I don't think anyone else has gotten close to them ever since. The internal presentations on Firepower were serious jaw-on-the-floor stuff and that's now ancient history.

all discourse aside, there is one machine with consciousness. it's printers. they are alive and conscious and they hate you and they'd take your arm clean off if you let them. never trust a printer.

Exactly. Vegas is weird and dumb but there’s live music, extremely good food, a couple of genuine natural marvels within a short drive, and the list of things you’ll catch a death penalty charge for are mostly all defendable.

the Dubai influencer/manosphere/grift/sex work space is an incredible story that's massively underwritten
rattatatouille.bsky.social
Yeah, there's a reason all those Instagram influencers get flown out to the Gulf states, and it's not just pictorials.

(This is also why I thought "Dubai chocolate" was a euphemism for something until recently)

(I’m pretty sure this is the joke.)

“I didn’t vote for this”

Yes you did.

Yes you did.

Not only did you vote for it, but all of us told you about it, and so did the person you voted for, and so did half of the people who voted for him.

Yes you did vote for it.

You voted for this, and now we have it, and you don’t get to lie now.

If you voted for him, you've done this.

Sufficiently old school Jewish restaurants in NYC will often have grilled salmon fins and tails on the menu and there is possibly nothing better on god’s green earth.
