The whole, “Men need hobbies/therapy/etc” thing is a massive red herring for the actual problem.

This is true of a lot of stuff people hold up as evidence of being a good/bad person. A big one is that men who are passionate about hobbies, well socialized, and have many friends can still be deeply fucked up and evil towards women and each other.

What is the cliche/stereotype Ms. Rachel has said?

Another thing - The fact that Remmick is implied to be older than even Christian Ireland hammers home for me the idea that he has spent centuries shedding and trying on new cultures. The Ireland that Rocky Road to Dublin comes out of isn’t really his Ireland.

I’m probably just projecting my opinion of hippie culture onto the movie (I thought about 60s-70s rock and it’s relation to blackness a lot), but something about Remmick really evoked it for me.

The cartel stuff was already questionable (if very entertaining) in the original show. I was happy with Tuco’s first appearance in Saul, but does it really need to become the Mike & Gus show when the writing of Chuck, Howard, Kim, and Saul all completely clear the characters from Breaking Bad.

I’ve seen his attitude a lot, but like, having the same premise or even lifting entire plots isn’t ripping people off.

The fact that gladiator games are not fictional should indicate that, “kids fight each other to the death for entertainment and/or political purposes,” isn’t a big leap to make. Also, beyond it’s basic premise, HUNGER GAMES isn’t even that similar to BATTLE ROYALE, either.

Surf Draculas are everywhere for those with eyes to see.

The show that drove me insane on this front was White Lotus, which uses constant shocking reveals to hide the fact that every episode is the same and just preparation for the finale.

Not to mention that a leftist politics that includes “The US should be the most powerful nation on Earth and should aggressively police other major powers,” is both unsustainable and invites really awful shit domestically.

But aggressive U.S foreign policy against Russia and especially against China has achieved nothing. And the drawbacks have the potential to cause far more misery than anything gained. (Russia is admittedly much more arguable, but the threat of nuclear war outweighs anything else imo.)
October 12, 2025 at 11:03 PM
The very real and dangerous maximally anti-China, anti-Russia positions are far worse than the standard Leftist position on both, even if you think the Leftists are bad on those countries.

Also, why would the CSA give up huge chunks of the American West when that’s what they wanted most lmao?

Only truly good use of LLM I’ve seen is as a much better, but very energy intensive PDF search.

Plus, I think Ford’s performance pretty much conveys where he ends up emotionally.

Imo, his journey is implied anyways by Deckard deciding to run off with Rachel. I think the Director’s Cut ending is right to trust that the audience will pick up on that.

If a comedian performed at a “Trump is a Great Guy and You Should Not Criticize the US,” comedy festival paid for by the U.S. Government, I’m pretty sure people would also have a problem with that.

I definitely like serialized television more than you, but at the same time, I really hate the soap-opera-fication of TV. There is a way to do serialized fiction that isn’t endless cliffhangers and where each novel/episode still feels like a complete story.

I’m about to be playing the Jane Austen RPG Good Society and I feel like extremely chaste, very transactional romance can work with the right groups

The second one describes Biden’s foreign policy, as well.

I think copyright has been a massive and actively destructive red herring for artists in all mediums, but I don’t blame people in situations like this for using the only tool they have been provided.

*Trying to think of the most foundational sin of the American Literary canon* Hmmm, Don DeLillo.

I feel like pirate-steampunk is at least on the path to making steampunk tolerable for me. Seems like a natural combo, in some ways.

I hate how it’s fans talk about it like it’s the first good TV show. (I am also a massive fan of it, btw.)
