Fair point. But in a number of these cases, data are already free to download via data.gov.uk and INSPIRE - e.g. the HES data portal at portal.historicenvironment.scot. The ADS and others also provide and/or are developing APIs - e.g. archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/blog/unlocking-data-apis

I came to Zotero late - post retirement! - and now swear by it. It's much more than a reference manager as it also provides access to all the associated paper and book pdfs, so think of it more as a library manager ...
