The picture shows a low setting sun with golden rays just going behind a distant tree line. The sky itself is a mixture of greys yellows, pinks, orange and golden tones.

The clouds are scattered and radiate from dark to light to the top of the picture with a light blue sky hiding behind them.

With our picture description we have a short tale of Zombie’s to fit tonight’s theme…

Our black-and-white photograph shows an old graveyard filled with tall, intricately carved Celtic crosses made of stone just outside the village where l live here in Ireland .

Moss and age spots mark the surfaces, and the carvings are worn by time. The tallest cross stands in the foreground, its circular design framed against a dark, almost night-like sky streaked with thin clouds.

Rows of other gravestones stretch behind it, some leaning, some half-covered in ivy. In the distance, thick yew trees loom, their dark foliage adding to the heavy stillness of the scene.

The atmosphere feels ancient, sacred — and quietly unsettling. Our picture is finished off with a pure white border frame. Now for our Zombie tale for this evening.

I call this…The Restless Earth

The night was moonless when the first sound came, a deep cracking groan from beneath the earth. The air was still, yet the ground trembled softly, as though something vast was stirring below the graves.

Moss crumbled from the crosses as the soil before them began to shift. A pale, dirt-caked hand clawed through the earth, followed by another.

The dead, long forgotten, were waking, eyes clouded, bones creaking with the weight of centuries. They rose not in rage, but in confusion, bound by whispers only the dead could hear.

The crosses glowed faintly in the darkness, their carved knots pulsing like veins of light, trying to hold the boundary between the living and the lost.

But the whispers grew louder, names being called, promises broken.

By dawn, the graveyard stood silent again. Only the disturbed soil and faint drag marks across the grass hinted at what had risen… and where it might have gone.

They walk still

Sleep well my friends.

'Reflect Refract'

This photograph presents a compelling, close-up of a leaf, its surface glistening with numerous water droplets. The focus is sharp on the leaf and the moisture clinging to it, while the background is rendered in a soft, ethereal blur. The leaf itself appears to be from a plant with a robust, textured surface, possibly a holly or a similar species, given the small, sharp spines visible along its margin. The intricate network of veins is clearly defined, forming a crinkled, almost leathery texture that is highly visible beneath the water. The colour palette is muted and organic, dominated by deep, dark greens and earthy browns, which suggests an environment that is shaded and moist.
The water droplets are the central feature of the composition. They are scattered across the leaf's surface in varying sizes, from tiny, almost imperceptible specks to large, spherical beads. Each droplet acts like a perfect lens, reflecting and refracting the ambient light and a distorted view of the surroundings. A particularly large, pear-shaped droplet hangs precariously from the tip of the leaf, its surface taut and ready to fall. This suspended drop is a focal point, capturing the viewer's attention and adding a sense of dynamic tension to the otherwise still image. The lighting is soft and indirect, from a shaded location, creating a gentle illumination that highlights the translucence of the water and the subtle sheen of the leaf's surface. The background, a beautiful wash of blurry, dark shapes and colours, enhances the macro effect and isolates the subject, allowing the viewer to appreciate the fine details without distraction. The overall feeling of the image is one of quiet serenity, capturing a fleeting moment of natural beauty after rainfall.

'Looking Back'

The image features a close-up of a side mirror, from a large coach/bus. The mirror housing is made of a matte grey plastic or composite material, and it extends from a lighter-coloured arm that disappears out of frame at the top right. A small portion of another vehicle's body, which is red and has a yellow text graphic, is visible on the left side of the frame. This suggests the image was taken from the outside of the vehicle.
The side mirror is composed of two distinct mirrors set within the same housing. The upper mirror is a flat or slightly convex rectangular mirror, while the lower one is a wider, more curved convex mirror, designed to provide a wider-angle view and reduce blind spots. Both mirrors contain reflections of a city environment. The reflections, particularly in the lower, wide-angle mirror, are slightly distorted.
The reflections show multi-story buildings with numerous windows, indicating an urban setting. The buildings are a mix of red brick and what appears to be a lighter-coloured, possibly white or cream-colored, facade. The sky, visible in both the reflections and the background, is a light blue with scattered white and gray clouds. The ambient light suggests it is daytime. The overall colour palette of the image is muted, with the vibrant red of the vehicle providing a contrast to the neutral grays of the mirror and the blues and whites of the sky. The image is in sharp focus on the mirror itself, while the background and the vehicle's body are slightly blurred, creating a shallow depth of field. This composition draws the viewer's attention to the intricate reflections within the mirror's surface.
