Lynch was such an intuitive artist that I think his work doesn’t lend itself to interpretation. There are some currents running through it relating to obsession, identity, and the abuse of women in Hollywood, but also dream logic and symbolism that Lynch probably couldn’t fully explain himself.

Yes because the photographer is going to be much more productive in Lightroom, and that fundamentally is the most important thing.

I totally appreciate the sentiment, but realistically I’m not going to recommend Darktable and Ubuntu to a photographer friend, I’m going to tell them to get a MacBook and Lightroom. I say this as someone that has built a long career on OSS technology.

It’s not about privilege. OSS is mostly a headache for anyone non technical, as it often requires you to develop more technical expertise, which detracts from just achieving your goal. There are some notable exceptions like Blender, but commercial software often has better UX, and is easier to use.
