Gaming and weird music appreciation, and maybe some other stuff too :)
If tier lists were a pure data analysis on who beats everyone else, then there would be no reason to play those other characters, and little reason to play that game at all. "Vibe" is kind of a necessity in this whole thing

Kind of, but my devil's advocate argument is that that can be just one move, which beats out some moves and not others. The rub is that you don't exactly know what your opponent will do at any given time, so it's all unpredictable. Which is good.

Maybe it's easier in fighting games due to frame data and generally less chaotic parameters.

Kind of, but I feel like there's a bit of a middle ground. I follow a lot of fighting games (I suck at them all, I admit) and it makes a lot of sense to think that one character has a tool that can beat certain other characters' tools in many situations.

You're right! I actually forgot about PM! Don't know how I could, that shit rocked.

But you're right, if PM hadn't been shut down, or if Brawl hadn't been so meh to begin with, not only would Melee players have shifted over, we probably would not have such a divide in our communities

Most of the time, when a new FG entry comes out, everyone shifts over to the newer title, even if it isn't as good. Look at when SF5 came out. I think that the only reason Melee pushed on so long was that its sequels just weren't on par and there was no other (good) plat fighter to fill the void.

I love Melee. Got it for Xmas right after it came out and likely put more hours into that game than any other. That said I think it's time to move on. We have newer and equally exciting games that haven't had their meta flogged to death yet. I play SF and GG nowadays but I'd love to watch Rivals II!

Dale Crover from the melvins (and a few early songs with Nirvana) will always be my number 1. The amount of musicality he brings to the kit completely changed my world.

Shadow of Mordor. It takes some good ideas from other games, but doesn't pull them off half as well, and these various frustrations end up overshadowing the game's main original idea.
