Not a bot, just really quiet.
I think that feature is only offered on some Androids (are you using a Pixel, by any chance?). I think it's part of a Google app called "Personal Safety", not compatible with my (newish) Samsung.

On mine, when you use the SOS function, it only records 5 seconds of audio, no option to add video.

Also, when I politely interrupted to explain that I was going to do the cross-street-pay-again solution instead of riding all the way to the Bronx or whatever, they all immediately demoted me from "poor lost lamb" to "crazy idiot tourist" and wrote me off as a lost cause.

I messed this up and ended up on the wrong side of the platform. 6 strangers brainstorming where I'd be able to get off and switch subways to come back the right way.

I finally realized I could just go up, cross the street, and go back down. They were trying so hard to save me like $2 or whatever.

Yes!

It's remarkable how often well-meaning liberals will use "old testament" as a synonym for "vengeful and barbaric", for example.

Yes! We had a UPS Big Truck at ours. When he honked his way through an entire light cycle and then leaned on his horn as he inched his way through the intersection, it felt like we'd won.

If you haven't already discovered it, you might be in the mood for the recent two part episode of If Books Could Kill, where the podcasters rip apart Elon Musk while also thoughtfully criticizing Isaacson's recent biography of him.

Thank you!

You brought me some joy, and I hope you find some of your own.

“Say her name” is not about allyship. It’s a term crafted for people who are the focus of violence that deliberately erases us. It’s not for her, and it wouldn’t be for her, even if she were Heather Heyer, who didn’t get it when she died for civil rights. Can you understand that?

It's great to talk about funding for kids with autism and other neuroatypical conditions! Families need support!

My understanding is that the ABA therapy covered in this article is deeply controversial in the autism community. Calling it the "gold standard" without noting those concerns seems bad?

Don't forget the noun:
"It's fun to visit the city, but it's such a schlep to get there."

How interesting! I vote for chocolate/chocolate, and when I buy cake for other people I generally order 1 choc/choc and 1 vanilla/vanilla. Maybe I'm doing it wrong!

Ideally any cake should have some form of raspberry involved, either fresh berries or raspberry jam between layers or both. IMO.

Thank you for sharing.

It must have been very chilly out there!

You know, I was really annoyed that I paid the urgent care vet $500 for a jar of fiber supplement for my puppy, but now I feel like I got off lightly.

I keep mine with the power outage stuff.

I got them for free from AAA a decade or two ago. Just realized I should look into finding slightly more current versions, thanks for the reminder.
