Denver Quiche. Ham, peppers, shallots, and sharp cheddar cheese suspended in a creamy egg custard baked into a homemade crust. Christmas leftovers at their finest.

My resident eastern #cottontail #rabbit. He spends most of his time in my yard . It'll be a sad day when he's no longer around. #wildlife

Another great #wasp to have in the garden is the Four-Banded Stink Bug Wasp. It's a solitary sand wasp that preys on true bug nymphs including the brown marmorated stink bug. They are beneficial pollinators and pest controllers.Solitary wasps look intimidating but are rarely aggressive.

Common blue mud dauber #wasp on bronze fennel flower.
These are one of my favorite wasps in the garden. They are not aggressive and help to keep down the spider population.

I took a vacation day today, solely to work in my butterfly garden. I got up early, went outside, started removing wayward saplings, milkweed, and other large weeds. I was making great progress when I apparently disrupted a bee's nest and got stung 8 times. Needless to say, I'm done for now.

Early spring flowers in bloom or coming into bloom. Feels like running into an old friend you haven't seen in a while.

T'is the season!

I've been busy starting this year's food garden. Here the seedlings of three types of tomatoes(Cherokee Purple, Thorburn's Terra-cotta, and Rosella,) King of the North sweet peppers, Thai and Italian Basil, and Amaranth.

I decided to improve my French language skills at work instead of playing mindless games while I'm on my breaks. For 100 straight days, I've been taking lessons.

My Muse was sick this week and had to visit the vet. So she got a new toy: a catnip squirrel. She loves it and won't let anyone get near it. (She's covering it with her head in the last photo)

My desk at work. Our office decorates our desks each holiday/season. This is mine this winter. We actually have people who stop in just to see how we've decorated. The large snowflakes were made out of paper lunch bags, the small ones were made out of toilet paper cores. And yes, I made the cat too.

I try not to take photos when I'm driving because it's not safe but when I saw this sky (pink to the east with blue clouds while the golden sun was setting in the west in my driver's side mirror) I had to snap it. I snapped it blindly but was pretty happy when I saw what I captured.

It only took me three weekends to get my tree up & lighted. Three weekends ago, it wouldn't stop snowing & I was preoccupied with that, last weekend, I found one light string I had tested, didn't light. Today, I bought new lights. Still have to decorate it but I am celebrating the small feats today.

The first of three holiday concerts was tonight. This one is probably in the prettiest venue,
a grand old United Methodist Church. My child is playing viola in this concert.

My girl, Muse, all cuddled up today smack dab in the middle of the bed.

Just bought a new book to add to my stack of to-be-read books. 🙄 Eventually, I'll get through them all. There are so many fascinating ideas out there. This one is on biological relativity.(The author has another called the "Music of Life" that's also in my cart 😬)

Normally, because we are so close to Lake Erie, we don't see lake effect snows at our house until the lake is partially frozen over. This year we got "lucky" with a weather pattern that formed over the coastline and just dumped all the moisture picked up from a warm lake onto us. Still shoveling ❄️

My car, taken a couple minutes ago. Pretty soon she may be one big pile of snow.

I accept the snow because it is part of living here. This is the more socially acceptable view of natural beauty of those living in the snow belt.

I love the snow, but after four days of this, even I am calling, "Uncle!"(And I know this is nothing compared to what our friends in upstate New York are seeing.)
