One more thing - Hal’s expressed point is, you don’t need a $300m+ payroll to compete. Besides the fact that that approach forgoes their key advantage, you would need a much better management team (gm, manager, analytics) than they have to compete that way. Cashman thinks he’s Friedman - he’s not.

We need to take a step back and understand that this mass hysterical freak out is because a guy wants to tackle what is objectively the most existential threat to the City (affordability) in a way that helps residents, not corporations and the rich for whom New York is a playground
