@imanibarbarin.bsky.social predicted this a couple of years back — that pandemics lead to a resurgence of eugenics, body-policing, and white-supremacy. It’s been sobering to watch her predictions play out in real time.

I am so frustrated to be in the mini-generation too old to have gotten the chicken pox vaccine, but still 5 years away from qualifying for the shingles vaccine. Shingles still sucks if you get it in your 40s!

My theme pitch: adorable anthropomorphic animals having a water fight. Squirt guns, water balloons, etc.

I was a teenager when Baz Luhrmann's sunscreen speech/song was big. I remember the line "you are not as fat as you imagine" feeling naive. Now I look back at old photos and know exactly what he meant, and wish I could have loved myself a bit better.

I'm sorry but this is the wrongest take.

Private room karaoke means even the ones in your group who would never be willing to give it a try can be encouraged to let go and have fun. Plus it means you can completely monopolize the setlist with disney songs, the best possible karaoke choice.

It's true that cars are a major cause of death in this country. And we don't hold drivers nearly responsible enough for the harm they do. Autonomous vehicles may improve things. But no one should be allowed to profit off of a system that externalizes human death into a line on a balance sheet.

The craziest part of it, for me, is that they’re basing all this on a non-deterministic algorithm! So even if it does work sometimes, they definitionally can’t prove that it will work again.

I have spent 3 decades listening to hardcore infosec nerds explaining that the only safe information is information that isn't recorded anywhere. If it's stored, it can be accessed.
