In the last moments of 2024 in the UK, I'm up not to party but to be with my little doggo for when the fireworks inevitably start up.

I remember all the pop culture jokes about Jimmy Carter when he was in office, all the ridicule about him being a peanut farmer and his brother Billy and having seen UFOs, etc.
Of course, no one at the time knew that he was gonna be the last decent President of the 20th Century.

I'm hoping she keeps flying the flags of discontent.

Once I saw Krypto in the new #Superman2025 trailer, I knew this could be a Superman movie I'd watch. I was the generation whose Superman was Christopher Reeve (and whose Batman was Adam West), before the Grimdark Era, when fanboys didn't want their heroes to be pure, wanted them edgy (cont)

My oldest memory was from this time of year, but from a half century ago, flying across from NYC to Northern Ireland to visit my grandparents. I remember the smell of plane fuel and of coal burning in the terraced houses of Newtownabbey, and the salmon-pink glow of the streetlights in the mist (1/3)
