This week we drew SafeRev's OC, Luke, a fallen angel / demon lawyer. Interesting character. SafeRev is someone who draws photorealistically, even within the limited tools of Gartic Phone, so I felt compelled to try to emulate his style if even just a little.

Maooooooopu is someone I and many others in the Gartic Community look up to, so I was thrilled when the raffle decided we were drawing that person's OC, Lucia. Our characters have a similar aesthetic, so I felt the need to settle our differences.

On the advice of a trusted artist friend, I've been working on a character study for Bluez. The turnaround is done, so next I'm creating a series for a pair of Bluez's most useful assets, which you've probably already noticed by now. The wakizashi, obviously.

Art trade with Eriskalie, who says she likes Overwatch, D&D, Pokemon, Mario, small cats, and tea. I wasn't able to fit it all in, but I'm glad she liked it anyway.

Got the materials and rig set up in Unreal. It's a whole different way of thinking of things, and it doesn't help that the documentation for Unreal's control rig is esoteric at best, but it is satisfying to see it all coming together.

Future reference to any aspiring UE devs out there, Blender models do not transfer shaders, custom properties, nor bone constraints to Unreal 1:1. Most of the materials are easy to fix, especially raw matte, shinies, or textures, but fun stuff takes rewiring.

Up until now, all of my automation was shown with keyframes, but this one needs to be shown raw. With a single custom property, I can slide Bluez's hand seamlessly to its sheathed weapon, pull it out, then hold it freely, no matter how contorted the body.

I tried to be more detail-oriented with this doodle, and didn't even get close to finishing. But it was fun drawing @munchypony.bsky.social ! Since we were given permission, I'm going to consider this an entry into #artfight , as a non-affiliated free agent!

It's good to have Gartic friends. You learn fun new tricks, like using complementary colors to make other colors pop. Basic color theory that everyone knows but no one really heeds until someone shows us how it's done. Who knew dark blue can be darker than black?

I made an animated profile image for Gartic. I wanted to do so much more, but I know if I give myself an unlimited amount of time, I'll never actually finish. This was the result of a month's worth of effort, condensed down to the parts that were hard to animate.

Got a fun extension that allows me to download the history of a Gartic doodle.

Textured the gloves. Looking way better than I'd expected. Unfortunately, applying Solidify to be able to texture it properly broke the weights, so I can't currently animate it without getting clipping issues. I'll worry about weights when I finish texturing everything, though.

SillyV seems to be back into regular streaming, just as I was trying to return to being productive. But I'll forgive him this time.

I've been working on optimizing my model so that it can animate in real time, a necessary but time-consuming step toward becoming a game or vtube asset. The biggest performance hit was the fishnets, so I've reduced them into a 2d image in a shader with a Fresnel effect.
