Wonder White from The Wonderful 101 (directed by Kamiya) is stated to be from the real Shinshū, but some people (*cough cough*, Fandom) mistook it for an Ōkami reference because Ōkami has 神州平原 (Shinshu Plain; the Shinshu is spelled with 神 instead of 信.)

which comes from their pride as citizens of Matsumoto, the provincial capital of Sinano Province and the former castle town of Matsumoto Domain. The "Nagano" hater Matsumoto citizens choose the old name 信州 (Shinshū) over the official name Nagano when referring to their hometown.

Another fun fact: Hodeki Kamiya was also born in Nagano, but his hometown is Matsumoto City where many of the citizens have beef with Nagano for being the prefectural capital and the prefecture being named after them (continues)
