Seleste continues to play the piano with the shadowy figure standing behind her before the ground shatters and gives in underneath her as she falls into a void of darkness Seleste is caught by the shadowy figure, he says “There you are. You performed wonderfully.” Before pulling her in closer and saying “and now you’re all mine.” A photobashed image of a theatre with a hole in the center stage. The text reads “Would you give your life for the theatre?” The response is “Yes.”

Seleste’s blurry vision makes out the clear silhouette of the shadow figure looming in the audience as her companion suggests that she takes the night off after collapsing Seleste is in her dressing room applying make up as she says “It’s just a fever. You know what they say. Seleste caresses the shadow as its speaks to her, he says “Won’t you play my song? Again and again?” Seleste responds with “I feel warm.” As the music flows across the page, the shadow continues with “Oh you poor thing. Keep playing. We’ll be united soon.” The shadow disappears leaving a note that reads “You will be mine” in messy black ink beside a rose, Seleste reads the note feeling tense The room around her begins to darken, Seleste clutches hee head and utters about her head before collapsing “Poor thing” the shadow opens the page by caressing Seleste’s cheek and pulling her up, saying “You must be exhausted. Come darling.” The image shifts from a dream state to the real world as Seleste’s companion tries to wake her up, the shadow ending his statement with “You only have one more show left.”

Seleste hears steps behind her, she starts to think that “It feels like someone has been following me ever since I first played that song. Hiding in the shadows. But it’s all in my head. Right?” Seleste turns around quickly and shrieks, startled by nothing in which she says “Hah. I could’ve sworn.” Seleste convinces herself it’s nothing as she slowly turns while saying “It’s nothing. I just don’t feel well. I just need more sleep.” Though as she turns she bumps into something, gasping as she looks up to see a shadowy figure hovering over her Seleste stutters asking the figure who and what he is as it reaches out to hold her cheek, he begins to answer but his voice begins to fade as he locks his lips with hers in a tender kiss

This is such an important point. As I argue in the NYT essay linked above, the rise of the "working homeless" is not just about low wages, but about the changing nature of work itself: volatile schedules, eroded job security, and a lack of benefits that put stable housing increasingly out of reach.
“But it’s not just that wages are too low; it’s that work has become more precarious than ever. Even for those earning above the minimum wage, job security has eroded in ways that make stable housing increasingly out of reach. More and more workers now face volatile schedules, unreliable hours and a lack of benefits such as sick leave. The rise of “just in time” scheduling means employees don’t know how many hours they’ll get week to week, making it impossible to budget for rent. Entire industries have been gigified, leaving rideshare drivers, warehouse workers and temp nurses working without benefits, protections or reliable pay. Even full-time jobs in retail and health care — once seen as dependable — are increasingly contracted out, turned into part-time roles or made contingent on meeting ever-shifting quotas.”
