To be short, they were outright failures. The induced draft fans were rapidly eroded by cinders, and their soft exhausts essentially choked out their crews with smoke. Both engines were quickly retired and replaced by more modern 0-8-0s.

And here is one of 600's sisters in her NdeM guise. Note the modification to the tender, as these engines were converted to burn oil on the NdeM. They were also reclassified as the UR-1.
