I always thought a Catch-22 was a situation of "A cannot happen until B happens, and B cannot happen until A happens", where both are impossible because both rely on the other.

Happened to me when I tried to get into technical writing. Three interviews that went really well. And then I sent three different people emails asking if they could explain why I wasn't chosen. No answer from anyone. Meritocracy!
