Reading the question more carefully now (whoops!): for minion groups, I use different colored game pieces from other board games (Catan has been a good one to steal pieces from so far). And the forge steel encounter sheet helps me keep track of what minis are in what group behind the screen!

I typically build the encounters in Forge Steel and then print off the pdf encounter sheets that generates! It creates a summary of the encounter on page 1 with malice abilities and an overview of the monsters and groups, followed by all of the stat blocks I’ve added to the encounter on later pages

I just finished running it for my group (all new to DS) and I think it went really well with a few small tweaks that I wouldn’t have thought of on my own. Onto the Delian tomb!
