Railways, Industrial History, Canals and the odd bit of strange Wales
They used to, express trains used to go from Paddington all the way to Birkenhead. But that was the original GWR.

And then we entered the workplace and all those things arrived. So now we need them in school to prepare people for the workplace

Thanks for this, just added a load of good people onto my feed.

My biggest take away is after all that happens on that train etc etc the heroine looked perfect in the last scenes. Hair in place, make up on point, and not a sweat mark anywhere. It was very "chocolate box", but good fun.

Sorry you have called this one wrong IMHO. He is between a rock and a hard place thanks to Brexit. We should be standing strong with the block, instead we are out on our own because of Johnson and Farages lies.

I have seen a guy using similar to get around Newport. Think it's a great idea and allows the users an element of autonomy

And one or two railway luminaries as well.

Don't you remember Sunaks amazing Network North? A rambling set of projects announced without any business cases in place anywhere. At least this one looks as if it's been thought through a bit better

The answer is the same every time this question is asked. Wales railway infrastructure is not devolved. Hence Barnett doesn't apply.
January 16, 2026 at 3:25 PM
Haven't we been here before? Welsh infrastructure is not devolved so any Network Rail project is a England and Wales project. Hence no Barnett funding.
January 14, 2026 at 9:33 PM
The reason is rail infrastructure isn't devolved. Therefore these projects are Network Rail England and Wales, hence no Barnett monies. Devolve rail infrastructure and then we would. Like Scotland did.

Here's a question. If they make it a state how many electoral college seats would it have? Knowing the way Greenlanders think, they are almost certain to vote Democrat. So wouldn't that ensure the fine balance suddenly tips the way of the Democratics permanently?

Yep, that's what happens when governments keep changing specs, risks and scope. Shapps and Sunak will be spoken of in the same sentence as Beeching in the years to come.

There was a 222 on test runs yesterday. Route testing and not in the livery, but looks all on track if you pardon the pun.

Still reckon it will be a Tory defector. Either way they will be appointed by Farage and the 'members' won't have a say.

We booked to go see it. Can't wait

I am trying to get through to some people over there who either don't know how to move or refuse. As I put in my blog, they need a plan B.

The food angle. Before the railways some parts of the country didn't get to experience certain foods as they would perish before they got to markets. How railway time became the standard across the UK instead of having local times. And don't forget how railways opened up the seaside resorts.
