A beautiful Yellow Crested Night Heron strolled down our boat deck! I saw s/he again early this morning, diving for fish in the North Bend of our Middle River.

A beautiful Yellow Crested Night Heron strolled down our boat deck! I saw s/he again early this morning, diving for fish in the North Bend of our Middle River.
After a night of fireworks, a Virginia opossum searches for food. Opossums are omnivores, meaning they will eat practically everything including insects, small animals and discarded human food. When threatened or harmed, they will "play possum", mimicking the appearance and smell of a sick animal.

The Strawberry Full Moon is in full bloom tonight! The "Strawberry Moon" is a name given to the full moon that occurs in June. It's called this because it coincided with the time of year when wild strawberries were ripe and ready to be harvested, according to Native American tribes.

Another day, another bird! Purple Martins eat many kind of insects, but they do not eat mosquitoes. Mosquitoes are active at night. Purple Martins are active in the afternoon and dusk, but not at night.
