After Jim Gavin stiffed his tenant for three grand, that same tenant went on to become deputy editor of a national newspaper.

That's not somebody you want holding a legitimate grievance against you when you're trying to be elected President.

Especially when the rightful owner of the money sent him several legal letters, to his home and his place of work, called to his parents’ house and spoke to him repeatedly on the phone reminding him of the fact that he had €3,300 he did not own and that should not have been in his bank account.

It’s not that I doubt Jim Gavin’s word.

It’s just that a man who coached the Dublin football team to six wins in a row and who headed the national aviation authority forgot he owed somebody €3,300, paid into his account in error.
