Allegedly Cary Grant's love child, also live action reviewer for @ukanime.bsky.social, and general musings on film as prompted by random thoughts possibly best lost to time
Still one of your absolute best releases. Anyone who has not seen it or bought should. The film is a delight start to finish. And, arguably, one of the best mismatched buddy movies ever.

Suppose we'll have to hope someone else can get the UK license. Saw all of them at the BFI during the season and they were excellent. Maybe something for @filmsradiance.bsky.social or Eureka?

Eraserhead it goes without saying but Dementia is such a great experimental film. Anyone who has not seen it should head over to the BFI Player or buy the Blu-ray/

Watched Sone's Angel Guts: Red Classroom yesterday and that was bloody remarkable. Some of the most extreme filmmaking I've seen for a while but always with a point, never gratuitous, often to dig into the psychology of our characters.

Last Man Standing (it's Hill's last masterpiece and yes it is one); Careful (Maddin); I, The Executioner (Kato); Only Angels Have Wings (Hawks); a season of precode films... you know you want to

Or could we go sideways and have Cruise in drag, starring as Maiku's sister, Akane, in a new series of Akane Hama, who has dropped out of college, met her mother again (this time knowingly), lost her way in a spiral of sex clubs then dug her way out to become a down at heels yet pro bono lawyer?

Because I've been waiting over two decades for it, never thought it would happen and I would die with an inscription on my tombstone: "I never did get to see all of the Maiku Hama trilogy", it has to be the private detective Maiku Hama

First gut feel was 3. But 2 grows on you. It's distinct yet compact. So think I'm going with 2

Though it looks to be blocked. Damn. Yeah had to suggest the same thing to watch Our Neighbour, Miss Yae (bloody beautiful film so why no one has released it...)

Not sure I've seen that, and it's Anthony Mann? Looks like I should dig it out! Let alone add to the list

That always works for me. I remember this guy who used to question why I watched some 1930s Brit b-movie no-one had heard of. Why was I not watching the classics? Also sometimes films from nowhere hit you harder. Perfume of the Lady in Black no one talks about but a great film

You know what I think I may have seen it. I can see in my mind's eye the cover of the blu-ray. So many gialli sort of blur in my mind. Maybe I just watch too many films?
November 30, 2025 at 7:27 PM
I cannot think of a gialli set in Ireland. Which one is it?

Pretty much booked my ticket the moment they became available. It's a great double bill and a great venue, A Snake of June is one of my favourite films and never seen it on the big screen so really stoked for this.

How did I not have copies of Fish Story or Shadow Of Fire, even though I've seen both? Oh well, remedied now.

I may only have been writing on the site for a few years but been visiting it for much longer so I remember a lot of those old views of the site. Still impressed you're still standing after 30-years, and sane.

Just finished watching The Demon of Mount Oe and surprised by how excellent it is, a film that gains in nuance as its story unfolds and is always grounded in its characters and their stories. I was not expecting the ending it provided but is compelling and utterly fitting.
