Yes! It's a great book and I did have to force myself to take breaks while reading it because of how grim and tragic it got. I love it

If you want another rough time, Agustina Bazterrica wrote another novel called The Unworthy, an epistolary novel about a lesbian nun in a post-apocalyptic, pseudo-Catholic, profoundly abusive convent. About as dark as Tender Is The Flesh but in a couple different ways

Checked out a bit of the trailer out of curiosity and yep, the GM is also a white man. In their defense I guess it's hard to find people of color in their home country of *checks notes* NEW ZEALAND.

The time-old struggle between optimization versus story driven character gen... Not mutually exclusive but a tough line to walk. I'm sure this decision will pay off in the long run tho!
