Just doesn't seem to make sense to argue that investors will be driven away. What's the alternative - countries with no rule of law? It's probably overthinking, but makes me wonder who controls Euroclear. In 2020 FT reported that China was then the 5th largest shareholder. www.ft.com/content/b110...

I think it's Euroclear. They seem to be the ones getting pissy about it and scare mongering about the consequences. Sonnenfeld/Herbst/Taylor wrote an insightful article on the excuses last year. They said the concerns are:

To be clarify, I meant the Russian nuclear waste facility has Japanese funding, not the speculated movement of the waste! I believe Prof. Koizumi and Yoshinaga-san (bald guy) are worried about this movement bc they think N. Korea will recycle the nuclear material for weapons.

Prof. Koizumi explains that it is Jpn funded - Jpn wanted to help the former Soviet Union store away this waste, fearing they would dump it into the ocean, etc. The Deep Dive channel plans to bring a nuclear expert to comment further on the next episode.
