I’m incredibly grateful to City Councilors @votejivan.bsky.social, @enriquepepen.bsky.social, & @willieburnleyjr.bsky.social for collabing w/me on our first video last fall, & for passing resolutions in their respective municipalities calling for a ban on forced brokers’ fees.

Many have worked on this issue before I have.

In a video last year celebrating @chiosse.bsky.social's forced broker fee ban in NYC, @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social mentioned that MA was the only state left where the practice was legal.

That’s when I thought: we can’t let New York beat us!

This win belongs to the climate, labor & community orgs who organized advocacy sessions with 100+ electeds—& legislators on the inside. We demanded a removal of old barriers to ensure the transparency needed for good govt & effective inside-outside organizing.

And finally, it’s been delivered. 3/4

Unlike other states, cities & towns across MA require State House approval to pass legislation affecting their local community.

With the immense power the State House has over our material realities, it's all the more important for us to know what’s going on so we can more effectively fight.

@zohrankmamdani.bsky.social is right: hope is not naive, it is righteous.

hope is like a prayer, a salve for despair. 5/6

a candidate has to be particularly special for 30+ people from Boston to come down to NYC to help canvass during the hottest days of the year.

but as I discovered while calling and texting Boston organizers I knew—the pitch wasn’t hard.

@zohrankmamdani.bsky.social is truly that special. 4/6
