Unoxi continues to develop.

Over its entire development I have complete 1193 tickets. I have 85 more to go, then the game is done (Right?).

Unoxi continues to develop.

This goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway: I am furiously against AI and generative AI and have never used and will never use any form of AI to build any part of any of my games for a laundry list of reasons that is longer than I want to spend time explaining.

Unfortunately, I’ve lost my day job. Unoxi is a hobby for me, so development won't stop, but it will gradually be pushed to the side the longer it takes me to find a new one. I’ll continue to post on social media once a month though.

Too many times I’ve made a tiny change, thinking it’s fine, then I play test it later on and find something unexpected. And every time I say out loud: ‘This is why we test things’. At worst, you find a bug. At best, you discover a deeper mechanic that becomes its own section.

Unoxi has a very minimalist aesthetic, which includes the audio too. Most of what you’ll hear is ambient soundscapes or mild pads, but there is some music in places. Here’s a track that doesn’t quite fit the feel of the game. #GameDev #IndieDev

Out of the 100 puzzle goal I wanted to reach, I'm currently at a puzzle total of 195.

To keep track of puzzles, I have a single file with a number in it that increments everytime I create a new layout. This way each puzzle always has a unique ID.

The number in that file is currently at... 937.

One of the most glaring design mistakes I keep making is naming puzzles after their solutions. For example, there's a puzzle that requires you to unexpectedly stack blocks together and then knock them over. The title used word Jenga. I swear I've done this about 30 times.

Another mechanic I’ve cut is Sidling. Unoxi adapts a lot of Stephen's Sasuage Roll and I wanted to try implementing a similar mechanic from the puzzle Backbone. It’s definitely a fun toy and can make some interesting devices, but ultimately breaks more puzzles than it creates.

I’ve played with a lot of mechanics ideas for Unoxi and not all of them integrate well. I usually keept everything behind manager flags, but I’m at that part in developement where It’s time to cut things. A cut example here is where blocks can be watered twice. #GameDev #IndieDev

Sorry for the lack of updates on Unoxi, but there isn't much I can show that wouldn't be a spoiler (Or just walls of code). I think from now on I'll just post around the start of the month something like 'Still working on it'. It's not very exciting, but it's better than silence.

Sorry I don't post more often, but sometimes there really isn't anything visual I can show (That isn't a spoiler). So here's a jpeg of some wavey bushes, if bluesky had video #GameDev #IndieDev

I was trying to slightly randomise the hue of these terracotta tiles and made rainbow road instead.

I've made a couple of extensions in my unity inspector to help with game creation, but one of the most useful ones is just having the ability to rotate and mirror puzzles when placing them.

[Bluesky doesn't support videos or gifs yet so uhh...]
