A shutdown isn’t just a DC drama. It means federal workers are left in limbo, paychecks for military families go unsent, and seniors wait longer for services.

Well I hope you enjoyed today's thread about #Cartier at the #VandA tomorrow we return. Again tip your waitresses.😁 Check out my ko-fi link. See you tomorrow.

Another collar, this time in gold. Certainly a timeless look. Maybe a bit heavy on the cats but if one wants #Cartier Panthers this is a piece to have. The bracelet too is an interesting and creative piece utilizing the gems and the #panther
A golden collar necklace chased with the panther. It's reminiscent of Egyptian or middle eastern ancient iconography A panther bracelet with a cabochon emerald in the center of the piece. The panther looks like it's playing with the gem.

It wasn't just jewelry for the #panther. Practical items as well. Again a timeless look nearly 100 years old
A vanity case with diamond corners, an inset panther with trees in emeralds on either side of a stalking cat.

This is 1 of my favorite #panther pieces from #Cartier. It's an unusual material and it recalls the motto of 'never copy always create.' Aside from being cool and beautiful it's very kitten like
A panther face on a pendant hung from a chain of emeralds, onyx and diamonds. A tassel of pearls finish the necklace Close up of the cat face. It looks very much like a kitten. You can see the emerald eyes and pearl tassels as well as the sculptured carving of the pendant

We were going to get to the #Cartier Panthers eventually. So might as well do it now. I know some people think it's a little much but these next few examples are creative and honestly amazing pieces. I love the collar. So timeless.
A gold and ruby necklace in the form of a collar. It has black spots on the gold reminding one of a leopard or jaguar coat,(which Panthers are one or the other) it's a timeless piece

Princess Margaret wore the diamond rose many times. While not a commission from her it sorta counts as it was a gift to her specifically.
A diamond rose given to Princess Margaret. It's very detailed. A diamond rose close up seeing the stem diamonds. Close up of the rose petals in diamond

George VI enjoyed giving his family jewelry from #Cartier as presents. Sapphires were a gift to his daughter. The bracelet is very nice indeed.
A diamond and sapphire bracelet in a clean modern style and a floral brooch in diamond, sapphire. Both are commissions by George VI from Cartier.

Ruby brooches in the style of dress clips. They are vaguely floral in design. #Cartier #royal #jewelry commissioned by queen Elizabeth the queen mother. You can see the move away from strict art deco and more modern styles.

Wallis didn't just wear #Panthers from #Cartier. They did tigers too..

I do however like the pearl necklace.
A natural pearl necklace designed for the Duchess of Windsor, by Cartier.

FINE I'll talk about Wallis and her flamingo. I think it's a great example of designing for the client and using skills developed over years of work. #Cartier was very good at that. Personally I neither approve or like this piece or the Duchess of Windsor. She knew what she wanted though.
A diamond, emerald, sapphire and ruby flamingo pin. Gems were supplied by the Duke of Windsor for his wife. Tad gaudy really.

So where were we? Oh, right, royal commissions. I like pearls but this bracelet didn't thrill me much. Pearls looked like nuts or something. It just doesn't flow well. But again no one asked me. Still black pearls...
Archival drawings for the design of the pearl and diamond bracelet. They look like some animal laid eggs in a nest. The black pearls and diamond bracelet Different view of the bracelet.

Ok. Back. Went to trivia, ate dinner, relaxed. Still furloughed from my library job. SIGH.

THUNE ADMITS IT: The democrats created affordable healthcare and the GOP wants to take it away. 💥

Thune: "We've told them we'll have a conversation about some of these things, like the ACA tax credits. Although that in and of itself is another issue that the Democrats created because they put the expiration date in place. They expanded these tax credits."

All royal commissions, all brooches. But very different. Both fashion, designing for the client and even perhaps the income level. Queen Mary had more interest and money than the Duke of York as he was then.
An enamel watch brooch with a bow pin. Sold in 1907. Very much in the Garland Edwardian style. An art deco aquamarine dress clip brooch for the Duchess of York in the 1920s or 30s. A carved emerald, sapphire, ruby floral brooch for Queen Mary. An early tutti frutti example?

Personally, I'm very fond of the lotus flower brooch. But I like rock crystal as a medium for #jewelry
bookgirl33.bsky.social
Now speaking of Royal commissions...no not tiaras, yet. They did other things. Brooches for instance.
A brooch in the art deco style of a dress clip. Lotus flowers inspired by Egyptian art using rock crystal to link the 2 flowers together.

Indian commissions to reset the treasury into modern settings helped #Cartier in rough times like the Depression or war. It also developed their reputation as "jeweler to kings and king of jewelers"
