As the Trump admin predictably rolls the National Guard into the streets and a Republican army of enablers roots for military violence against Americans, some words on why, and the way forward.
The Tyranny of Tiny Men
The way to fight back is not to give up on anyone. The way forward is to stand with each other, for each other.

The Trump admin’s DOJ just cut and delayed funding and training critical to combating child sex trafficking and exploitation.

Changes include canceling the 2025 national training conference for investigators of online child SA, delaying grants for Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task forces

It’s amazing what a farce she is, just the pure embodiment of the Politico ethos.
“Straight cringe” and it’s about the state smearing a murdered person as a terrorist.

This woman is a parody of Beltway journalists.

Voting NO on the DHS funding bill is the bare minimum.

Backing Kristi Noem’s impeachment is the bare minimum.

Holding law-breaking ICE agents legally accountable is the bare minimum.

ICE is beyond reform. Abolish it.

Being a journalist is sick: I just contacted a pre-eminent jaguar conservationist in Argentine with a question that has been weighing on me for ages and he wrote back right away with an informed answer.

At the end of the movie Cry Freedom, there's a list of all the prisoners of conscience killed by South African police and what the official explanations for their deaths were. Lots of "falling down the stairs."

That's what this reminds me of.
There’s no reforming this

Nevadan here. There was also the very real fear that the Bundys (and the gun nuts they attracted from out of state to this) were looking for an excuse to shoot BLM agents. It wasn’t just ‘Oh, yeah, they have guns but it’s just posturing’ the wide expectation was that shots would be fired.
Remember the Bundy insanity during the Obama years? Armed guys occupied a federal office and one of their buddies took position with a sniper rifle aimed at federal agents?

Exactly how many of those guys were shot and killed?

political theory PhD here, Fascism isn't so hard to define, any time you have an authoritarian populist movement with an ethnically exclusivist vision of national belonging, you have fascism. that definition is broad enough to incorporate all the obvious examples and to exclude false positives.
an absolutely insane thing to get paid to say in an article where youre admitting you were wrong

They simply don’t feel like they did anything wrong. When they shot that dude they had pinned to the ground in the back multiple times.
Wow. They just put those killers right back out on the street.
CBP chief Bovino has confirmed that the officers who executed Alex Pretti in the street yesterday are not only *not on administrative leave,* they have all been reassigned to other jurisdictions and are all on the street today.

This is totally unheard of for any officer-involved shooting
