Nevadan here. There was also the very real fear that the Bundys (and the gun nuts they attracted from out of state to this) were looking for an excuse to shoot BLM agents. It wasn’t just ‘Oh, yeah, they have guns but it’s just posturing’ the wide expectation was that shots would be fired.
Remember the Bundy insanity during the Obama years? Armed guys occupied a federal office and one of their buddies took position with a sniper rifle aimed at federal agents?

political theory PhD here, Fascism isn't so hard to define, any time you have an authoritarian populist movement with an ethnically exclusivist vision of national belonging, you have fascism. that definition is broad enough to incorporate all the obvious examples and to exclude false positives.
