This is very difficult to read, but I think this is the first time I’ve seen a story feature the perspective of a surviving teacher like this, and it’s so important. “Students called and texted… What their own parents could not fully understand — the worst moment of their lives — Ms. Schamis could.”
The Teacher in Room 1214
When a gunman killed two of her students, Ivy Schamis was the only adult in the room. Her journey through guilt and healing sheds light on the impossible role of American teachers.

Nancy Johnson's PEOPLE OF MEANS is a mother/daughter story following two timelines: Freda, the mother, during the Civil Rights movement, and daughter Tulip, who becomes involved in protesting after the Rodney King verdict. #ewgc

The first anthology (and podcast) Poetry Unbound, not only introduced me to so many great poems and poets but also taught me to read poetry better. I've just started 44 POEMS ON BEING WITH EACH OTHER by Pádraig Ó Tuama and I'm already loving it. #ewgc

DEATH OF THE AUTHOR by Nnedi Okorafor explored so many themes: family dynamics, disability, creativity, fame. But my favorite part was the book within a book, Rusted Robots! #ewgc
