The work of multitalented English embroidery designer May Morris (1862-1938). She was crucial to the Arts and Crafts Movement, elevating embroidery to a fine art, challenging its perception as low value 'women's work', while also supporting fellow female artists #WomensArt

Recommendation: THE BLACKEST STREETS: THE LIFE AND DEATH OF A VICTORIAN SLUM, by Sarah Wise (2008). It's full of astonishing details about the lives of the poor and the attempts made to help and/or control them. Wise's sense of humor and her sense of justice are both admirable.

A tomb with a view; Maen y Bardd or The Poet Stone on Tal-y-Fan near Conwy. Part of an amazing historical landscape which at one point, I’m told, was intended to be the route of the A55 expressway. Thank goodness that never happened! #TombTuesday

I highly recommend @jeanguerre.bsky.social's HATEMONGER (pub. 2020), about Miller's ideology and actions during Trump's first term. The experienced civil servants that served to restrain him then are now gone. Guerrero explains without excusing; the story is frightening and infuriating.

A common theme among novelists seems to be the utility of literature as a coping mechanism.
"No young man should dare to neglect literature. At some period of his life he will surely need consolation."
