Yes, god I hope someone can intervene and get the kid the help he needs before he continues the cycle. Just awful, heart wrenching stuff.

It felt so personal, like looking into a mirror. And now I see that he never made it to the other side at all. He maybe didn’t even want to, just wanted the appearance of it to use as a tool to inflict more hurt and trauma. It’s fucking bleak.

It sucks. I’m so sad and sorry for the women they have hurt, and for that poor kid. The Ocean at the End of the Lane was a book I so strongly related to as a fellow child of abusive parents, and I remember feeling seen, and happy to read a book by another person who had broken the cycle of abuse.

I sat there like Bruce Bogtrotter and choked down a full portion with watering eyes and a rictus grin while my Grandad fully lost his shit at the dinner table. Oh god it was awful, but it is one of my absolute favorite memories.

I should add that she took HUGE pride in hosting Christmas and she made the trifle every year especially for my dumb ass because I don’t like xmas pud or fruit cake. So because I ADORED that woman and there was no way I was going to tell her that her hard work tasted like off-brand mouthwash

My favorite is the year my grandma realized she was out of sherry for the sherry trifle, so she got creative and substituted creme de menthe. That trifle glowed in the dark I swear to god. Green strawberry jello, green custard!! 😩
