In November the 2nd & final #curae anthology is published by @renardpress.com with all profits, as in 2023, to @carerstrust.bsky.social and Carers UK. Beyond? I’m establishing the Curae Foundation to offer a substantial scholarship for online creative writing study or research for an unpaid carer!

Book news. This is going to be out in the spring with a brilliant indie. Just heard and details follow. It’s weird, kinky, sexy, supernatural; it’s about grief, loss and magical thinking, ambivalent motherhood & intergenerational trauma. London, Cambridge, Salisbury, Paris, Beauvais…

We can talk about this. For me, it’s evolved through being involved in projects not through networking, but I do think it’s part of the picture. Relationships. Of course. In my case bounding in cheerfully like Tigger!
bookwormvaught.bsky.social
Also, as with any industry, relationships are key, so do build where and when you can, talk about books, projects and so on. I’ve done that through new teaching, involving industry folk in Curae, just chatting about reading. It has evolved naturally, but of course it helps.
Hope this is all cheering

Note what there is to offer insofar as it is relevant to the query of conversation, but position yourself going forward, for business, clarity and your own morale. I cannot say whether any of my books will be a big commercial success, but then few can, but I can say that there are fresh starts
bookwormvaught.bsky.social
I’d planned a sabbatical - not doing anything else other than what I was already contracted to with industry - until at least January, but then things started moving. So if you’ve stalled/just never really got moving or think you’re a has-been after multiple books & no agent will look at you, not so
bookwormvaught.bsky.social
So rather than paying any attention at all to unsold rights, books out of print because two of my publishers went bust or talking about all the different things I could do, I focused with clarity on one book going forward and I noticed my energy levels went up too with rest and a fresh start
bookwormvaught.bsky.social
A host of things went wrong for me in publishing earlier this year, some of which actually had to happen because it’s a tough industry and we need to change things and look after ourselves and one another - and sometimes that’ll be tricky. But it ain’t fatal, my darlings. You need a reboot!
bookwormvaught.bsky.social
So there are various fulls and partials out now AND interest in the passion project, which I only just started and was doing freely for me - but it had legs! So chats to be had and that’s lovely. In addition, separate work - more news soon - with a lovely indie publisher.
What I would say is this
bookwormvaught.bsky.social
NEWS. No details! I lost my agent - 3rd one! - this summer when they left this side of industry. However I kept on with putting some things to one side, writing a new novel, enjoying a passion project & starting again after ten books. I had my first offer of agent rep a week ago; MAJOR progress!

Displacement is not just losing a home it is losing the walls that carried our laughter, the streets that carried our footsteps, the schools that carried our futures. In Gaza we carry only grief, hunger, and the hope that someone remembers we exist. Please save us 💔🙏🏻

Dad’s books are full of empathy, common sense, and a healthy suspicion of the powerful. But at its heart his work is also about how systems keep people poor while pretending it’s their own fault. So I hope Kemi’s taking notes as well as reading the jokes.

This is a lie.

There are many criticisms you might sensibly and truthfully make of the Sentencing Council and the Sentencing Guidelines. I’ve been making them for years.

But this is an outright lie. Pure fabrication. A fraud on the public.

- and that in recent years this has impacted badly on literary competitions that are run. So if I can help, or be an extra pair of hands - I’m not only thinking of Edge Hill - in any way to keep it going, do please tell me.

Putting this out there. 2026 is looking so much clearer for me and we are on the last year of my #Curae writing prize in its current form. I’ve written across form and I’m also a floating Creative Writing academic. I’m aware that there have been awful staff cuts in Creative Writing at universities
