153 kids are in quarantine in South Carolina.

118 kids in Minneapolis.

This is what happens when we ignore the science.

When we stop vaccinating, long eradicated diseases come back.

The kids deserve better than this. Measles can disable. It can kill. And it’s completely preventable.
Hundreds of U.S. students quarantined amid measles outbreaks
At least 270 unvaccinated kids are staying home from school as measles continues to spread nationwide. "Expect more," one expert said.

Blessed are the frogs, for they keep making authoritarians look incredibly stupid
Three persons in inflatable frog costumes. One of them is holding a nicely painted sign with two little cartoon frogs holding hands, below the text "FROGS TOGETHER STRONG"

So you’re going to have at least three book launches with me in 2026 and, because of my commitment to access, they will all be online instead of or in addition to bookshop events.
I AM at Folkestone lit next month. My event is sold out. Coming? Say hello here!

'...hardcover adult fiction in the US and/or UK library markets.'

I'm not entirely sure what this means, though I feel I should know. I did not understand that there was a specific thing, whereby fiction was limited to hardback and I don't know what library markets are. Come at me experts!

In November the 2nd & final #curae anthology is published by @renardpress.com with all profits, as in 2023, to @carerstrust.bsky.social and Carers UK. Beyond? I’m establishing the Curae Foundation to offer a substantial scholarship for online creative writing study or research for an unpaid carer!

World mental health day - TW childhood trauma.
OCD, developmental trauma, depression, anxiety, cPTSD, panic attacks, flashbacks, recurrent nightmares, dissociative episodes. It’s not weak to be open, to share. It’s making it easier for the next person.
With love, as always

Coming soon coming soon.... an anthology of new work by writers who are also carers. I'm in here somewhere. Thank you so much to @bookwormvaught.bsky.social and a heads up to @ylbooks.bsky.social and any other bookshops who might like to carry a copy (out in November).

I’ve got a feature coming from a writer’s perspective - ideas I accumulated and a relationship I built, all part of discussion and collaboration so readers and writers can support our fine small presses, but also be a helpful part of business and benefit themselves.

Also the doctorate explores the memoir and looks at how magical realism can expand beyond novel form and interrogates its link with nature writing - trauma-informed nature writing. Finally, I don’t get better. I’m not better. But I’m here - broken, but here: thoughts of love, solidarity and hope

Reasons why this is significant. It’s part of my ongoing relationship with a brilliant small publisher but also my doctorate is significant and new work on trauma and magical realism - particularly developmental trauma - and we need the book available for scholarship and study.

One of my publishers, as several other indies/small presses, recently went out of business. My memoir, linked to my recent PhD, will be republished by the Haywood Press arm of @renardpress.com next spring. New intro, cover, and textual links. Delighted. I LOVE working with them. #booksky 📚💙

In other news, my older lads think I totally fancy Yungblud - a cause of hilarity to them. I think that lad is definitely charming, talented, funny and raising the heat for a lot of women old enough to be his mum, though that could be a hot flush. Also, come ON www.youtube.com/watch?v=mw0s...

Lots of responses to this delightful article and so much actionable and wise advice. I think it’s the ghosting that nearly kills you though 🤣 Honestly, stay in the game, adapt - and writers are great at encouraging one another, so ask for cheerleading xxx
‘Stay true to yourself – and fly closer to the sun’: what I’ve learned from 50 years of rejection
As a writer, I have been rejected thousands of times, and it initially led to shock, denial and anger. Then I accepted it. Here’s what you can gain from doing so too
