I feel like for art in particular, mastodon isn't a preferred destination, it more for academic and tech stuff from what I saw where there's people in them.

But also I genuinely don't know how it compare to bluesky where you can't really grow a audience here anyway

Bluesky is of course meant to be similar but the whole decentralised thing haven't been implemented yet, so right now we're all at the whim of whatever stupid decision of the current moderation team :)))))

The main advantage is that it easy to move to another instance if the one you're currently at end up being shit or something, standard social media just force you to use them by proxy of being very hard to move out because you will lose the mass majority of your audience.
