I maintain that Tarot, especially complex spreads like the Celtic Cross, is less about divining the future or playing with your intuition and far, far more about walking you through analysis of a situation. The cards are largely meaningless...

...just pretty pictures and shadows of meaning that force you to collect (for example) your recent past and soft through it to find the events that are directly influenced you. I often consider both the reversed and upright meanings for each card, despite it's position.

All that to say "I'm not like other witchy gays" (I am), but also I think you can be very secular and still understand and use some things to hack your perception, reveal assumptions and biases, and get outside your comfort zone.

...the cards have just a narrow enough variety that you get spooky little coincidences like that. And like I said, it forces you out of your little box and to stretch to find things to put to a specific card.
