I've only read the 2nd (that the rest of the show is based on). I would say the book is pretty standard fun m/m sports romance w/ the most unqiue part being the timeline. I think the show & actors improved upon and strengthened it. I listened to the audiobook and the reader was mid imho.

They're actually the focus of the first novel in the series!
