Our call is clear:

❌End the cooperation with Libya
❗Protect humanitarian teams & people seeking safety
🛟Fund rescue, not repression

That’s why we joined 42 other organisations in signing an open letter to Ursula von der Leyen and the European Commission.

Instead of protecting people on the move and those who rescue them, the EU continues to bankroll the so-called Libyan Coast Guard – with deadly consequences.
borderline-europe.bsky.social
We demand immediate clarification and consequences from the EU.

The attack on the rescue ship Sea-Watch 5 by @sea-watch.org shows once again: EU money fuels violence at sea.

The campaign UNHCR is UNFAIR run by @refugeesinlibya.bsky.social together with Refugees in Tunisia and Niger is starting in September and sheds light on Europe’s complicity in human rights violations in transit countries.

📢Since nearly a year, refugees in Agadez (Niger) have been engaged in a daily non-violent protest against the inhumane conditions in the UNHCR center. On August 21st, six protest leaders were arrested.
borderline-europe.bsky.social
At least 37 people died and 139 people are missing – among them several children.

🆘 We counted 1993 illegal push- and pullbacks, mostly to Libya, where violence by militias and the so-called coast guard is further escalating.

What happened in August in the Central Mediterranean?
In August, 5289 people arrived in Italy by sea. 1073 were rescued by civil SAR – despite increasing violence and ongoing criminalization by Italian authorities. The Algeria-Sardinia route is becoming more active again.

Saving lives is a duty.
Criminalizing solidarity is the real crime.

We stand with Mediterranea Saving Humans , @sosmediterranee.org, @compasscollective.bsky.social & all who defend the right to rescue.

On August 24, Libyan militias opened fire on the Ocean Viking with 87 rescued people on board. It is one of the most serious attacks on a rescue ship in the Central Med to date.
The civil fleet won't stay silent. Legal action is underway.

The #PiantedosiDecree forces NGOs to disembark survivors only in distant ports — prolonging suffering and delaying help. Authorities issue unlawful orders that cost lives. Resistance is punished.
borderline-europe.bsky.social
Rescue is not a crime.
Yet governments seize rescue ships, criminalize NGOs, and let people die. Violence and obstruction against civil sea rescue are escalating.

We need to stand with the Afghan people for dignity and justice.
borderline-europe.bsky.social
Afghanistan is not at peace — its people are living through crisis, inequality, and neglect. We cannot look away. The international community must act and fight for human rights, support healthcare, education, and humanitarian aid.

They knew boats were in distress. They failed to intervene in time. They failed to alert civil search and rescue teams.
When governments turn away from people in distress, they are complicit in their deaths. We refuse to stay silent.
🕯 We mourn. We remember. We demand justice.

Our thoughts are with the survivors who saw their children, parents, siblings and friends die before their eyes.
The sea did not kill them but Fortress Europe did which forces people to risk their lives at sea.
Italian authorities and Frontex monitor these waters constantly.
borderline-europe.bsky.social
They could have been saved.
At least 27 people -including a one-and a half year old child, lost their lives in a deadly shipwreck off Lampedusa on August 13. Many more are still missing. Women, men, children -with homes, dreams and ambitions.

🛥️The @seawatchcrew ship ‘Aurora’ was detained in the port of #Lampedusa, only 4.5 hours away from a boat in distress. Frontex and the Italian authorities ignored the emergency call for days. Two young children died and one person is missing. Read the full report in bio. 🔗📃

❌ At least 1,970 push- and #pullbacks were recorded, most of which were to Libya. Meanwhile, reports from #Libya of violent attacks on black migrants, as well as deportations to the desert close to the Sudanese border, increased.
