Probably a bunch of other stuff I can't think of right now.
For the Mavs I was very impressed with Brandon Williams and Ryan Nembhard. Their both lighning quick and know how to use it - #Rockets didn't seem to have an answer to contain their dribble penetration. Future's bright for those two! #Mavs young core looking surprisingly decent with them and Flagg.

Also feels like they've got into bad habits in transition. There's been a lot of forcing turnovers and then giving the ball straight back, and it really blunts the #Rockets defensive effectiveness. There are risks to playing that way (fouls, overplays), and they aren't getting the rewards to match.

General trend for the #Rockets I find concerning: the team is now 0-2 on second nights of B2Bs, and has looked much worse in them than the rest of their games. Some of that is not having Adams, but definitely feels like the team loses some juice. Schedule's been kind so far, but it won't always be!

Jabari was a bright spot all night. Doing the heavy work on the glass, scoring in the post. Thought his matchup with Flagg was very entertaining. 22 points was what the team needed given it was shorthanded and Amen couldn't get going.

Ime called on Jeff Green to play backup C, but actually when the #Rockets made their comeback run in the fourth it was Jabari at C that was doing the damage. It hasn't really been a thing this year but it feels like something the team should experiment with more, particularly with players out.

In general the half court offense felt very one-dimensional. KD can only go 1-on-5 so many times a game, and it felt like the #Rockets had reached their quota by half time. No Sengun and long armed opponents shut down Houston's passing lanes, and the Mavs really stymied Thompson all night.

Until "attack Reed Sheppard 1-on-1" isn't efficient offense, Reed is going to have to be lights out on offense to compensate. Tonight it was the perfect storm of a coach/team willing to spam attacking him and a poor offensive game. It happens, I hope he can find a way to improve going forwards.

Why do I say this was all down to Reed? Well in that span he had three live ball turnovers that resulted in transition points for the Mavs, and when that wasn't happening they threw the ball to whoever he was guarding and let them go to work. It was ruthless, and it worked.

This game got blown open by a run the #Mavericks went on in the third quarter. Unfortunately, I think a lot of the blame can be laid at Reed Sheppard's feet. He checked in at around the 7 minute mark, and the Mavs immediately went on a 13-0 run and never looked back.
December 7, 2025 at 11:15 AM
Despite that I actually thought the #Rockets did a great job on the offensive glass. Adams gets a lot of the credit for that, but I actually think Amen and Jabari should get more plaudits than they do. They are athletic and get to good spots. Kept a lot of possessions alive tonight.
December 7, 2025 at 11:09 AM
This is one opponent where missing the #Rockets usual big rotation hurts a lot. The #Mavericks have their own aspirations of playing Kaiju-ball, and for a lot of the game it felt like they were taking advantage of their size edge to get in the paint and finish.

Just curious - how important is being "more live" to you? Is it just so you don't have people on Social Media giving out spoilers?

FWIW nobody in Houston has a bad word to say against the guy. He was great while he was here and I loved having him on the team (and told every Suns fan I could find that they would too!).
December 3, 2025 at 8:06 PM
It's weird, when he was in Houston I had zero issues with his shot selection the whole time he was here. He took open threes and would go to work in the post occasionally if they needed him to late clock, but he wasn't spamming tough fadeaways in key moments or anything.

The #Rockets are the tough draw for everyone else, #Nuggets included!

What do you think is the path to Maluach being a good NBA player? As someone who watched Reed last year, it was clear that confidence was an issue and he seems to have fixed that! What's the blocker that Khaman needs to fix?
November 30, 2025 at 10:45 AM
I totally understand anyone who boycotts them on principle. Just saying that all the other players on that team are really fun and I think they have potential to hang around and win some games you don't expect them to. Wouldn't be surprised if they climb out of the East's basement soon.

*With a healthy dose of Sexton. I really enjoy watching his hustle, he always looks like he's giving 100%.
November 30, 2025 at 1:57 AM
Edwards, Maxey and Cunningham are probably his competition for that (amongst healthy players, anyway).

I'm sure I remember someone keeping track of how many career/season highs each team gave up over the course of the season. It's an interesting way of looking at how defenses work (charitably, teams that load up on stars are more likely to give role players space to excel).

Fair enough! I just went and had a look at "Remaining Strength of Schedule", and indeed the Thunder have the toughest remaining average win% of all teams for games the rest of the way (according to www.tankathon.com/remaining_sc..., anyway). So I think that backs up your claim.
